Purdue's roller-coaster of a season finally comes to a close.

An up and down season finally came to an end last night in a game that many thought Purdue would walk away victorious. Like many games this season, Purdue came out sluggish and acted like they weren't ready to play or like they wanted to. I was able to attend both of the CBI games, and this was easily one of the more frustrating Purdue games I have watched in my collegiate career; mostly because it was winnable and we gave it away. Credit to Santa Clara, though. They played hard from start to finish.

Purdue started this game ice cold, and the Broncos capitalized off the Boiler's poor shooting to get an early lead. The starters for this game were the usual guys: Ronnie Johnson, Terone Johnson, D.J. Byrd, Rapheal Davis, and A.J. Hammons. This was my favorite lineup for a while. That is, until Hammons' game mindset went from 'not-giving-a-shit' to 'really-not-giving-a-shit'. I can't think of a player I've been more frustrated with than Hammons. He showed so little effort out there that it made me wonder if guys on the team actually like playing with him (which I'm sure they do but that doesn't make it any less frustrating). He took a couple selfish, early shots that led to an early bench and only 16 minutes in the game.

Once Hammons exited, Sandi Marcius came in and had an electrifying dunk off a crafty pass by Ronnie. This was the spark Purdue and Mackey needed and the Boilers started to click offensively. Purdue retook the lead going into halftime, but kept the game close till the final shot. The largest lead Purdue held was twelve points, and at that moment it seemed like the Boilers would run away with the game. But that was too good to be true. Santa Clara fed the hot hand of guard Kevin Foster, who finished with 34 points, 8 assists, 2 rebounds, and a steal. Watching Foster was like watching someone play NBA Jam; he could not miss. Foster was guarded by multiple players but it didn't matter, he was too hot.

Purdue tried to do anything and everything to stop Foster. But if Purdue double teamed him, he'd kick the pass out to the open man or draw a foul in an attempt to drive. Sometimes Foster would even take a step-back dribble and fade away while draining the shot in his defender's face. Hats off to Foster, he had a great game. The defense had no answer for Foster and the Broncos. It didn't help that Purdue had an enormous defensive breakdown this game as well. The Boilers were late on rotations, did not communicate well at all, and fell asleep on the court at times which led to open shots and drives. Purdue also did an awful job of boxing out in the second half, which led to extra possessions for Santa Clara. It was an incredibly frustrating performance to watch.

The game came down to free-throws and quick last second plays that had to be executed right. The Johnson brothers started to take over here, scoring 14 of Purdue's final 17 points. The other three came from Sandi Marcius, who was just as determined to win as the Johnsons. Ronnie and Terone were rentless at attacking the basket, and Chooch was there a couple times to clean up the mess on the glass; one was a crucial offensive put-back and 1. The Boilers got it to a two point game and Terone had the ball, and with how he was shooting I was fine with. However, Terone decided he wanted to channel his inner Foster and took an incredibly stupid step-back fade away jumper that rimmed out. Santa Clara got the ball and was fouled. Purdue managed to get it to come down to a game tying shot after Santa Clara hit one out of two free throws and brought it two a three point lead, but Terone Johnson's three pointer rimmed out, thus ending Purdue's season.

This game basically summed up Purdue's season: An emotional ride where you see a team with so much promise and talent, but then a lack of experience, discipline, and maturity overtakes them and opponents take advantage of this. Santa Clara was doing everything Purdue struggled against: zone defense, full-court trap, pick and pop shooters, and forcing them to play beyond on the arc.

Even though it was a loss, and a disappointing one at that, a lot of good came from last night. Ronnie Johnson had a huge game with 27 points and 6 assists. He took some dumb shots at the beginning, but this tournament was great for him and we saw what his future can be like. The Chooch train became a force in the last few games of the season, and he has become an emotional leader. After the game the players came by the Paint Crew to high five everyone like they always do; Marcius was holding back his tears and then let it all out as he went to the locker room. Chooch's effort has been rubbing off on others, and I hope that leads to a big offseason for everyone. Rapheal Davis had an awful offensive night, but he gave it all when he was on the court and is clearly one of those guys that will do other things when he can't score. Davis led the team in rebounding with nine boards. Davis has to be a scorer for us next year, just like he was in high school.

Terone showed that he can take over a game and keep us in it. He scored 22 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 2 assists. He took 22 shots to get his points, though. TJ's goal for next year definitely needs to be shot selection and consistency. But his ability to get to the rim late in the game is crucial for Purdue next year.

D.J. Byrd and Dru Anthrop played their final games as Boilermakers, and Boilernation should tip their hats to these guys for how hard they played. Byrd's inconsistency was awful to watch this year, but he kept us in plenty of games. Dru's intensity, defense, and play-making abilities off the bench will be missed next year too.

This offseason should have a lot of hard work and effort put into it. Hopefully our guys leave this season disappointed and hungry for success. With the additions of Bryson Scott, Kendall Stephens, Basil Smotherman, and Jay Simpson, this squad will still be very young and very talented. If Purdue wants, it will have an extremely bright future. But nothing will be handed to this team, as we saw this season. They've got to go out and get it.

Purdue finishes the 2012-13 season with a dud.

Of all the embarrassing events of this season, this one may be the worst. I admit that I did not see a single second of tonight's game, but I don't need to. Purdue gave up 86 points in Mackey Arena to a mid-major that lost twice to an awful Loyola Marymount team. It has never been acceptable to give up 86 points to anyone. It wasn't acceptable to give up 97 to Indiana earlier this season and they were the number 1 team in the country for a good portion of the season.

Santa Clara shot nearly 50% from the field, over 40% from three, and got to the free throw line 28 times. AJ. Hammons, a 7-foot center with talent that can be dominating, had three points and four rebounds against a team that had one player his size that only played 15 minutes. Purdue hit one three-pointer, at home, a game after it shot extremely well from long range. Kevin Foster was "hitting everything", but was still below 50% from the field and was 3 of 9 from long range. He had the dagger three that was supposedly closely guarded, but he doesn't score 34 points without some really poor defense. Deshaun Thomas is a much better scorer than some guy no one has ever heard of and Purdue still held him to 22 points.

Folks, the numbers don't lie. Giving up 86 points TO ANYONE has never been acceptable and should never be acceptable under any circumstances in Mackey Arena. It is "Defense Lives Here", not "Defense Lives Here unless the other team is shooting well." If they are hitting, change something, anything. It is inexcusable to give up that many points, especially to a mid-major that wasn't even tournament worthy.

To close, here is a smattering a tweets from tonight.

Yes, we sucked for even playing in the tournament and losing in it is even more of an embarrassment, What more do you want? I thought we were so insignificant we weren't worth mentioning and only Purdue fans were obsessing talking about you when we weren't playing. It's not like we weren't aware this wasn't an embarrassing season and we were talking it up as the greatest thing in human history, unlike, say, Victor Oladipo hitting a wide open three-pointer with his team leading and it being the most clutch shot in the history of the game of basketball.

Very sad if true. Unfortunately, it has been a theme observed by many this year for very long stretches. At least Ronnie Johnson and Terone Johnson fought hard at the end. That effort needs to be infectious.

I do not doubt that the talent is there, but when Painter himself commented after the Big Ten tournament that effort was an issue you know it is a problem. Talent means nothing without effort and cohesion, and right now Purdue has a very long way to go to have its effort and results match its potential.

If a basketball game happens and no one can watch does it really count?

Apparently the organizer of the CBI Tournament think it is still 1974 because tonight's Purdue game is the first Purdue home non-exhibition game that won't be televised anywhere since God only knows when. In a brilliant marketing move the tournament organizers are only televising two of tonight's quarterfinals: the 7pm Houston-George Mason game and the 9pm Western Michigan-Wyoming game. Purdue-Santa Clara and Richmond-Wright State, who are both in AREAS THAT JUST GOT HIT BY A MASSIVE WINTER STORM are not televised, presumably to drum up ticket sales.

You can watch for about $10 through the Big Ten Digital network linked below. I have free Pacers tickets tonight, so I can't make it to West Lafayette, but I'll be tracking and tweeting via phone.Fortunately, we can at least see what it would look like:

If Purdue wins they will play again sometime Wednesday night somewhere. The semifinals are re-seeded and Purdue would have to buy a third game at home if they make it that far.

If I were to guess I would say, to ease travel, George Mason and Richmond would almost certainly play each other if they both win, while Purdue would most likely play Western Michigan or Wright State if either of them wins. If Wyoming and Houston win I thing they would face each other with Purdue getting the Richmond-Wright State winner.

Of course, nothing else about this silly tournament makes sense, so why would that? All I know is a win tonight means a semifinal game on Wednesday, hopefully at home. A trip to the Finals assures Purdue of at least one additional home game in the best-of-three format, maybe two.

Round two of the CBI is tonight in West Lafayette.

Purdue's postseason run will continue tonight as Santa Clara ventures through the ice and snow of West Lafayette in the quarterfinals of the CBI Tournament. Up for grabs is a trip to Wednesday's semifinals, which will be reseeded among the winners of Houston-George Mason, Richmond-Wright State, and Western Michigan-Wyoming.

For Purdue, a near week off has been beneficial in the past. After a near week off Purdue came back to stun Wisconsin in Madison. After getting drilled in Bloomington Purdue plays some great basketball in drilling Northwestern. After a slow start against Western Illinois Purdue was able to cruise in the second half with a big assists from senior Dru Anthrop. Anthrop is clearly not done playing basketball yet, so another home win and getting his last year to .500 is critical tonight.

Odds: Purdue by 6.5

This is only the second time that Santa Clara has played Purdue in West Lafayette. Twice the teams have met at Santa Clara, while the first meeting was in 1978 in Provo, Utah. That first meeting was a 71-62 Purdue win, and it was the closest in the series.

Santa Clara has actually had quite a turnaround from a dismal season last year. They were winless in the West Coast Conference and won just eight games total in 2011-12. Two of those eight wins were over non-D1 schools. They did have some decent wins over Villanova and New Mexico in the 76 Classic, however. That helped lead to an 8-4 start that completely derailed into an 18-game losing streak to finish the year.

This year the Broncos again started strong with a 74-62 win at St. Louis on November 14. some close losses, however, likely kept them out of the NCAA discussion. In the non-conference they lost home games to Utah State and UC-Santa Barbara in overtime. They also went to Duke and lost by just 13. In conference they lost to Gonzaga, BYU, and St. Mary's twice each as those three were the top three in the WCC.

What really stung was Loyola Marymount. Loyola Marymount's only conference win was over Santa Clara on January 10, and they did it again in the WCC tournament.

Part of the turnaround has been the return of senior Marc Trasolini. The 6'8" 225 pound senior forward was expected to be a major contributor on a team that won the 2011 CIT Tournament and had high hopes for a big 2011-12 season. He tore his ACL in a preseason tour of Canada and was lost for the year after averaging 12.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He has come back even better, averaging 15.7 points and 7.7 rebounds.

Trasolini is part of a team that has been high scoring all season. They average 73.6 points per game, good for 41st in the nation. They share the basketball well at almost 15 assists per game. Kevin Foster, a 6'2" senior guard who also missed a large portion of last season due to injury and was awarded another year as a result (he also missed a good potion of 2009-10), leads the Broncos at 18.1 point and a solid 4.4 assists. Evan Roquemore, a 6'3" junior guard also averages 11.8 points and 5.3 assists per game.

It should be noted that Foster is the all-time leading scorer for Santa Clara, which is impressive considering Steve Nash is an alum.

As you can see, their strength is in a very good backcourt where both guards and score and distribute. The defensive challenge for Ronnie Johnson and Terone Johnson will be large, but at least Roquemore and Foster aren't physically overpowering. In addition to getting the ball Trasolini, they get the ball to Raymond Cowells III (9.5 ppg) and Brandon Clark (7.5 ppg). They form a four-guard, one forward lineup that has been rather potent all year. Also of note, Clark is an East Chicago native that played in high school at Merrillville.

The reserves don't do a lot of scoring, but Santa Clara is a deep team that rotates between eight and ten guys regularly. Yannick Atanga is an effective rebounder and shot blocker at 6'8". Robert Garrett is also a 7-foot center that will play a few minutes against A.J. Hammons.

Because of the nature of Santa Clara we can expect a four-guard lineup with Hammons in the middle against Trasolini. The Broncos are a team that really likes to shoot the three, so our perimeter defense will be tested. Clark hits at a 46.3% clip, but Cowells, Foster, and Roquemore take most of the attempts. Each one of them shoots better than 35% from long range.

This is a concerning matchup because they like to play at a fast pace, share, the basketball, and shoot the three. Think of them as Indiana-lite in that way. We haven't exactly been the best team at defending the perimeter all season. If Santa Clara comes out and shoots well from three we're in trouble. Western Illinois was not a good three-point shooting team but was still 7 of 15 from long range.

Hammons should have an edge offensively on Trasolini and Garrett is the lone player they have that is anywhere close to matching up with him physically. Once again, the strategy of give the ball to Hammons and get out of his way needs to be used, especially if it leads to foul trouble for Trasolini. Unfortunately, Trasolini can hit the three and draw Hammons away from the basket.

The defense on the perimeter by Rapheal Davis (who is improving greatly) will also be key. Ray D. is becoming more consistent offensively, so that will help too. I think we'll see more of the regular 7-man rotation of D.J. Byrd, Hammons, TJ, RJ, Ray D., Anthrop, and Sandi Marcius in this game. That will be necessary with their guard-heavy lineup.

This is the type of game we need in this tournament. This is a good, but not overwhelming opponent that will test the areas where Purdue needs to be tested.

Crow about Big Ten dominance in the postseason if:

Hammons shows up with the give-a-shit turned on.

Purdue's perimeter defense is at least effective.

Ray D. continues to be a difference-maker on both ends.

The Free throw line continues to be figured out.

Purdue wins its first game in the CBI as the first ever Big Ten team to play in the tournament.

As the first ever Big Ten team to play in the CBI, Purdue began it's post-season journey after defeating the Western Illinois Leathernecks in the emptiest Mackey Arena I've ever seen in my collegiate career. The place was more filled up during the alumni game I watched last summer.

Regardless of the poor show, Purdue came out with a chip on their shoulder after being taken down but a bottom-of-the-pack Nebraska team and beat the Leathernecks pretty heavily. The Leathernecks gave up a huge advantage when it came to size, which lead to the Boilers owning the rebounding battle 32-23 (in my opinion I thought we should've rebounded better and gave up some silly offensive boards).

Purdue's defense was pretty shaky at the start of this game; we helped a little too much on defense which led to open shots. Purdue also played with the same intensity my friends and I have when we go to the rec after a Cactus night. The Leathernecks were hitting their 3-point shots early, which gave them the lead at the beginning of the game. Our starters came out with a lack of energy, and the youth showed quite a bit early on. But with a line-up change where Dru Anthrop came in and sparked the offense really got things going. Anthrop came out determined to win this game, and his tenacity, along with Rapheal Davis', rubbed off on the rest of the team. Anthrop went 2-2 with 4 points, a team high 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. I loved watching Dru at this game and his play really got the crowd going.

The first half of the game was rough to watch; we played slow and careless even though we came away with a three point lead. The second half was a different story as we subtly beat Western Illinois ass. Purdue took advantage of their size, physical style of play, and tough defense, which lead to us getting plenty of points in the paint, turnovers, fast break points, and open looks.

Davis, the Johnson brothers, and A.J. Hammons all finished in double digit scoring. Davis had 12, Ronnie Johnson had 12, Terone Johnson had 10, and Hammons with 15. Hammons and Terone didn't shoot the ball particularly well, going a combined 10-21. This was the fourth game I've been to this season, and Hammons is even more frustrating to watch live than on t.v. I was going nuts about how he had such an enormous size advantage but never tried to overpower his opponent once. He took his fade away turnarounds and hook-shots. They went in, and I'm fine with that, but I pray that over the summer he learns how to be a dominating, powerful force in the paint.

I loved the way RayD played last night. He hustled, rebounded hard, and was all over the place on both ends of the court. His three point-shooting is improving, too. If he can be consistent with that than we will continue to be a handful for opposing teams.

I also loved how intense Sandi Marcius was on the bench and on the floor. I've decided when I get my tax return, I'm buying a 55 jersey and maybe even stitching "Chooch Train" on the back. Call me crazy, because I probably am, but the energy this guy brings every night is EXACTLY what this team needs. I don't recall seeing him sit once. When he wasn't on the court he was bouncing up and down at the end of the bench, cheering on his team, and playing his heart out when he was on the floor. Did he still commit silly fouls and turnovers? Yes, absolutely. But with the effort he gives I can overlook that. Hammons, please take notes.

Purdue shot the ball well from every point of the floor: 58% overall, 63% from beyond the arc, and, yes, you are reading this right, 92% from the charity stripe. Hell just froze over with that last statistic.

The Boilers will host Santa Clara on Monday night. I encourage all Purdue students and members of the Lafayette and West Lafayette community to come and support them. I managed to get a free ticket for last night's game, and I'm sure there will be more for the next.

Purdue will need to continue it's tough play, be energized, and not force anything if they seriously want to win this tournament. It's most certainly doable, but the Boilers can't overlook any opponent because of the conference they come from. It will be interesting to see what Purdue team shows up on Monday night.

Purdue moves on to face Santa Clara in the 2013 CBI.

It took a little bit of time tonight, but the Boilers used their size, strength, and depth to wear down the Leathernecks tonight. They came to play early and even opened up an eight point lead that had us all worried, but a 15-2 run late in the first half put Purdue in front for good thanks to the defense creating offense. It looked like bad Purdue was going to show up, but after about 12 minute good Purdue, the one that actually plays defense, took over.

After that, Western Illinois did not have much of a chance without their two best players in Ceola Clark III and Terell Parks. By the second half you could tell that Sandi Marcius and A.J. Hammons had just worn them down. If Purdue is playing defense, hitting better than 58% from the field, and is a surprising 12 of 13 from the line it is very, very difficult to lose.

The final numbers tell the tale of an efficient Purdue offense. Purdue was 58.5% from the floor, over 90% from the line, and got threes from Rapheal Davis, D.J. Byrd, Terone Johnson, and even Donnie Hale to go 7 for 11 from long range. Had Jacob Lawson not jacked up an ugly three late the percentage would have been even better.

Western Illinois got what it needed to at least stay competitive as guys like Remy Roberts-Burnett and Don McAvoy III were hot early, but again, they had a short bench because of their injuries. Michael Ochereobia had no chance to defend Chooch and Hammons for 40 minutes. Those two combined for 23 points and Purdue was in firm control once they realized that there was no defense for going down low. That opened up the perimeter too, as Ronnie Johnson was hitting the midrange game and Byrd added three more triple in the second half.

Also, something must be said about the all-around game from senior Dru Anthrop. He had to have a career high with 24 minutes and finished 2 for 2 from the floor with four points, six rebounds (four offensive), four assists, three steals, and a blocked shot. Don't tell him these games don't mean anything. Yes, his career is down to game-to-game, but if he can lead by example the rest of the way and impart some lessons on the returning players he is worth playing.

Finally, we have to congratulate John McKeeman. He is the mysterious No. 2 on the roster that got into the game late. He is a practice player that first dressed vs. Michigan and tonight he saw his first career action, so good for him.

Purdue now moves on to face Santa Clara on Monday night. I don't know if it will be at Mackey or in California, but I would bet it is in Mackey because we still covered the cost to host tonight and Santa Clara barely had over 1,000 vs. Vermont last night. After tonight the CBI will be down to eight teams. George Mason and Wyoming also won. Here are the rest of tonight's games:

Richmond 76, Bryant 71 - The Spiders went on the road and won thanks to Cedrick Lindsay. Kendall Anthony also had 15 off the bench.

Wright State 72, Tulsa 52 - The Raiders won with ease at home behind a 40 point second half. Kendall Griffin was big for them int he first half, but the ESPN box score stopped at halftime.

Western Michigan 72, North Dakota State 71 (OT) - Connar Tava hit two free throws with 13 seconds left and Taylor Braun missed twice in the last four seconds as the Broncos pulled off a last-minute win in overtime. Tava also blocked Braun's last attempt at the buzzer. TrayVonn Wright had 23 for WMU.

Houston 73, Texas 72 - The other team with a losing record in this tournament bows out to in-state rival Houston. The Cougars got a jumper from Danuel House with 17 seconds left, then a steal by Jherrod Stiggers with a second left to pull off the win. Julien Lewis had 27 for the Longhorns.

The first ever CBI game in Purdue history is tonight at Mackey Arena.

So here is your first ever CBI Tournament Open Thread. We know that a victory tonight assures the Boilers of a game against Santa Clara, likely in West Lafayette on Monday. I say likely because there were barely over 1,000 fans at the Santa Clara-Vermont game last night and Purdue can absorb the cost of hosting much more easily.

There are other first round CBI games tonight as teams we could meet in the semifinals or finals. North Dakota State is at Western Michigan, Tulsa is at Wright State, Richmond is at Bryant, and Texas is at Houston.

Well, we're in this thing. We might as well win it.

For the first time in months it looks like, at least on paper, Purdue has an easy game.

Purdue's postseason gets underway tonight and I have already seen the same questions multiple times: If this is a postseason tournament strictly to build for next year should seniors D.J. Byrd and Dru Anthrop play?

The answer is yes, of course they should play. Anthrop has earned the right to go out playing and to not play Byrd would be prickish. With 872 career points and the possibility of six games left Byrd has an outside chance of reaching 1,000 points for his career (though he would need to average 21.3 per game in this tourney to do so). As much flak as he has taken, he deserves to play.

What I do want to see is a short hook for him. If he has it and is hot, let Byrd play. If he is struggling, it's time to send in the younger guys.

Western Illinois Leathernecks

Blog Representation: Leatherneck Nation

Series With Purdue: Purdue Leads 4-0

Last Purdue win: 83-49 in the 1999-2000 season at Purdue

Time: 7pm

TV: AXSTV

Odds: Purdue by 11.5

Western Illinois is here as the result of their best season since moving to Division I 30 years ago. They received their first ever postseason berth last year, but this year they shared the Summit League crown with NCAA entry South Dakota State (though, since they lost both games to SDSU, they did not receive the automatic NIT bid) and lost only eight games all year.

The 22-8 record came about with virtually no schedule strength. Purdue will be the first major conference opponent the Leathernecks have faced all year. The losses came at the hands of SIU-Edwardsville, Evansville, Savannah State, SDSU (twice), Oakland, Cleveland State, and North Dakota State. Against NCAA Tournament teams they were 0-2, losing both games to SDSU. The NDSU loss was especially painful because they defeated the Bison twice during League play only to lose the conference tournament semi-final by 12.

A major reason WIU lost was that Terell Parks, its leading scorer and rebounds at 12.7 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, was injured in the BracketBusters game against Cleveland State and has since missed four straight games. It is a foot injury and he appears to be questionable at best for tonight.

Even more heartbreaking is the case of Ceola Clark III, the No. 2 scorer for the Leathernecks at 12.5 points per game. Clark will feel right at home at Purdue. He has battled through two ACL injuries and this was his 6th year of eligibility granted like Trevor Mbakwe and Robert Marve. Like Marve, he suffered a likely third ACL tear in the conference tournament loss to NDSU. Clark is the all-time program leader in steals, 3-pointers made, games played and is second all-time in assists and ranks top-10 in career points.

The loss of Clark is simply devastating, especially when it seems as if the kid is a genuine good kid with his head on straight. He stuck through a rather moribund program for six years to lead them to their highest heights ever.

With Clark and Parks out it honestly looks rather grim for the Leathernecks. Combined they average 25 of Western Illinois' 59.3 points per game, which rates 329th out of 343 Division I programs. They also grab almost half their rebounds and dish out half the assists. Clark was a playmaker at 4.1 assists per game and their best three-point shooter at 41.5%.

This should be a game where Purdue is not even challenged in the interior. With Parks out the role of defending 7-footer A.J. Hammons falls to Jack Houpt and Michael Ocherrobia. Houpt is a 6'7" senior, but only weighs 210 pounds. Ochereobia is a 6'8" junior that weighs in at 260, but the advantage that Hammons and Sandi Marcius will have in the post is overwhelming.

The loss of Parks and Clark also deprives the Leathernecks of two of their four seniors. Houpt and Don McAvoy III are the other tow seniors, but combined average 13.8 points and 7.1 rebounds. WIU needs to get a lot more from its supporting cast and No. 3 scorer Adam Link (9.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists) needs a big game.

Depth will also be a huge issue. WIU normally only goes seven deep and without Clark and Parks they will have to go very deep to the bench. Jordan Foster is one of just six players that played in all 30 games and Remy Robert-Burnett played in 22. After that, there is a huge dropoff.

Purdue's strategy needs to be simple: attack the paint until the Leathernecks prove they can stop us. They shouldn't be able to After battling big forward throughout the Big Ten season this should be a much easier task. Houpt is the only three-point shooter left, so defensively we should pack it in and dare him to beat us alone.

WIU has had a great season, but they haven't played a team as big and as strong as Purdue and they have to do it without their two best players.
