For those who may not have heard, Matt Painter has reached the Final 4 in the Infiniti Coaches' Charity Challenge and is comfortably in 2nd place right now. If CMP wins, $100,000 will be donated to the Smith Family BReaK Thru Fund, who's goal is to fund research to fight Niemann-Pick Type C Disease.
The Smith Family has close ties with Purdue and both basketball teams and are parishioners at St. Thomas Aquinas (on Purdue's campus). Their 3 children have been diagnosed with the disease, and 2 of them have already passed away from it (one of them passed away this past January over MLK weekend). As you can probably assume, the disease is basically a death sentence that one is born with, and it can be a miracle if the child reaches their teen years. I have a long way to go from becoming a parent, but the pain associated with this disease must be painful, and I certainly wouldn't wish it on even my worst enemy.
They have created their own website to spread the news about the disease and raise more awareness about the research. I suggest you check it out for more information.
It may seem like a long shot with Thad Matta of Ohio State maintaining 50% of the votes so far, but there are still 3 days left in the voting process, you can vote once a day, and miracles can always happen. It's for a good cause, so why not do it?
