Boilermakers in the NFL: Weekly Roundup

How are past Boilers doing in the NFL?

USA TODAY Sports

Every week we'll do a rundown of how past Purdue Boilermakers performed in the NFL. Football season is almost back in swing with the Ravens and Broncos kicking off Thursday.

TE Kyle Adams (Bears) - third tight end

DE Cliff Avril (Seahawks) - starter, came over from the Lions and signed a 2-year, $13 million contract

DT Ryan Baker (Free Agent) - recently released by the Raiders

QB Drew Brees (Saints) - starting quarterback, threw for over 5,000 yards and signed a 5-year, $100 million contract

DE Ray Edwards (Free Agent) - cut by the Falcons for a "bad attitude," has taken up boxing and remains a free agent

C Nick Hardwick (Chargers) - starter

TE Dustin Keller (Dolphins) - signed with the Dolphins this offseason only to tear his ACL, MCL, and PCL (also dislocating his knee) during the preseason and is out for the year

OT Dennis Kelly(Eagles)  - out for preseason, expected to miss first two games of season, backup at right tackle

OLB Ryan Kerrigan (Redskins) - Kerrigan is hoping to build on a 2012 season that saw him named to the 2013 Pro Bowl to replace Aldon Smith

DB Brandon King (Free Agent) - released by the Lions in August

LB Niko Koutouvides (Free Agent) - cut by the Patriots in late August

OT Nick Mondek (Free Agent) - released about a week ago by the Texans, may be resigned to practice squad

DE Mike Neal (Packers) - listed as third on the depth chart at right defensive end

LB Rob Ninkovich (Patriots) - starter at left defensive end

G Uche Nwaneri (Jaguars) - starter at right guard

QB Kyle Orton (Cowboys) - in his second year as a backup to Romo in Dallas

T Michael Otto (Titans) - backup at right tackle

QB Curtis Painter (Giants) - Painter beat out David Carr for the No. 2 spot behind Eli Manning

DE Shaun Phillips (Broncos) - listed as the No.2 at strongside linebacker behind Von Miller, but with Miller's suspension Phillips figures to get the start

DB Bernard Pollard (Titans) - spent 2012 with the Ravens where he won his first Super Bowl ring and led the team in regular season tackles, starter at strong safety with the Titans

HB Kory Sheets (Saskatchewan Roughriders) - Sheets isn't in the NFL but he warrants mentioning. Sheets has a league high 1,149 yards and is on pace to set the league single-season record of 2,065. He's been a workhorse and is also on pace to set the single season rushing attempts record by more than 40.

DE Anthony Spencer (Cowboys) - still hasn't returned from July 25 knee surgery, but when he returns he will start at defensive end, currently playing under the franchise tag for the Cowboys and is coming off an 11 sack season
