47 Days To Purdue Football: Ruben Ibarra

JUCO Transfer Looks To Make An Impact

Summer keeps cruising along and so does our countdown to the kickoff of Purdue Football. Today's highlighted player is a JUCO transfer who has the potential to make a bit of an impact on the defensive side.

Ruben Ibarra - Senior

Chicago, Ill. (City College of San Francisco)

6' 1", 225 pounds

2013 Projection: Reserve at Linebacker

Ibarra came to Purdue last year after winning the JUCO National Championship at his former school, City College of San Francisco. Ibarra had a good career at CCSC; he had 68 tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks, forced a fumble and recover a fumble. In seven games as a freshmen, Ibarra registered 35 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, and eight tackles for a loss.

Last season was Ibarra's first with the Boilers, and he only registered two tackles throughout the whole season. However, he was playing behind more experienced guys. With the departures of a few solid senior linebackers last year, Ibarra has a chance to step in and contribute more to the field with a younger squad.
