We have a defensive line commit! As we know, we are thin on both sides of the ball. Giovanni adds depth, but not much size. He stands at 6’4”, but is only 225 pounds, to play defensive line in the B1G he will have to bulk up a little bit.
Giovanni is a Western Kentucky flip. He was another priority add immediately after Coach Brohm was hired to be our head ball coach. I don’t mind the add, especially with the lack of depth up front.
I would assume that Giovanni is headed to a redshirt year. A year in the weight room will do him wonders. With a nice frame at 6’4” he could easily add 25 to 30 pounds and be a nice defensive end to help with the edge rushing problem that we have.
His HUDL page says he is 255 pounds, but I wouldn’t put much stock into that as he or his coach keeps up with that page. The most recent highlight he has is of his junior year in high school, which is a bit odd, but he looks pretty decent. Welcome to West Lafayette, Giovanni!
