Ho hum, just another first place week.

I’ve been a Purdue basketball fan since as long as I can remember watching sports. I was born in 1985 so that should tell you all you need to know about my time as a fan. I’ve seen some great teams, some great individual players, and two great coaches, but up until this recent three season run I had never seen a Purdue men’s basketball team reach #1 in the rankings. Today, I got to see it yet again as Purdue maintained their number one position in the AP Top 25.

In the ratings from last week Purdue received 49 first place votes. This week? 54 first place votes. That means five voters got their senses back about them and realized who the best team in the country truly is. Houston and Kansas flip flopped this week with Houston becoming number two after Kansas struggled a bit.

Who else in Purdue’s orbit was ranked this week? Let’s take a look.

  • #5 Tennessee - Purdue victory in Hawaii
  • #8 Arizona - Purdue victory in Indianapolis
  • #10 Illinois - Purdue victory in Mackey
  • #11 Marquette - Purdue victory in Hawaii
  • #15 Wisconsin - Future Purdue opponent
  • #23 Gonzaga - Purdue victory in Hawaii

Just three Big Ten teams are in this week’s rankings and honestly, no argument here. I can’t even make an argument for anyone else. Michigan State and Northwestern also received votes.
