No surprise here but it still feels good.

Today is January 1, 2024. The AP Top 25 came out earlier today. Purdue retained the #1 spot in the AP Top 25. No matter how many times I saw that it’s still beautiful each time. I mean, just take a look at this graphic.

Purdue received 49 first place votes compared with 5 for Kansas and 9 for Houston. No one was close. Purdue of course is next in action tomorrow as they travel to Maryland to take on the Terrapins. It did not go well the last time Purdue played in Maryland. But that’s a problem for tomorrow.

With Purdue reaching the #1 ranking in this the year 2024 it means that Purdue has now held the #1 ranking in four consecutive calendar years dating back to 2021. What an absolutely incredible achievement. This is something we all need to take in, enjoy, and ride the wave of.

So, who else of note was ranked this week?

  • #5 Tennessee
  • #7 Marquette
  • #9 Illinois
  • #10 Arizona
  • #21 Wisconsin
  • #24 Gonzaga

Other Big Ten teams receiving votes were Michigan State, Ohio State, and Northwestern. Prior Purdue opponent Alabama also received votes.
