Purdue Back at #1 in AP Poll

The Boilers ascended back to the top of the poll following their victory over previous #1 and undefeated Arizona

The Purdue Boilermakers have ascended to #1 in the AP poll again following the release of the week seven poll. The Boilers jumped from #3 to #1 following their victory over the previously undefeated and #1 Arizona Wildcats 92-84 on Saturday in Indianapolis. The Boilers were not ranked below 3rd in this week’s poll as the Boilers received 48 of the 62 first place votes after pushing their overall record to 10-1 on the season.

Purdue has the strongest resume in the country as they currently hold victories over the #4 Arizona Wildcats (#4 Kenpom/#2 NET), #6 Marquette Golden Eagles (6th Kenpom/#7 NET), #8 Tennessee Volunteers (#7 Kenpom/#8 NET), #15 Gonzaga Bulldogs (18th Kenpom/36th NET), unranked but receiving votes Alabama Crimson Tide (#9 Kenpom/12th NET), and unranked Xavier Musketeers (41 Kenpom/65th NET). No other team in the country has as many Quad 1 victories (5) as the Boilers or as many Quads 1-3 victories as well (9).

The Kentucky Wildcats were the biggest movers this week as the jumped 5 positions after a big win against the North Carolina Tarheels while the Clemson Tigers and Gonzaga Bulldogs both slid down 5 positions. The Illinois Fighting Illini and Wisconsin Badgers are the only other B1G teams ranked this week coming in at 13th and 24th, respectively.

Purdue will play just one game this week against Jacksonville at home before taking a break for Christmas and coming back against Eastern Kentucky to close out the non-conference season.
