Newman and Morton - USA East Coast Basketball

It looks like three games are in the books for USA East Coast Basketball. I have only really seen basic stats at this point, but it looks like Brandon and Ethan's team has been trying to spread out minutes pretty evenly while playing what appears to be over-matched competition. For the most part, everyone on the team is logging between 12 and 17 minutes per game (12 players).

In the first game, Team USA East Coast won 82-65 over the San Julia All-Stars. KJ Simpson (Colorado, PAC-12 All Freshman Team) lead the team with 13 points, 4 assists in 15 minutes. Here are Newman and Morton's lines:

Morton - 15min, 3pts, 4reb, 3ast, 1stl

Newman - 13min, 12pts, 2reb, 0ast, 2stl

Newman was the second leading scorer, with 4 total players scoring in double digits. If you believe the steals stats, Team USA had 21 steals.

In the second game, Team USA East Coast beat ACB Select 95-62. Guy Hughley, Jr Forward from Pitt lead Team USA with 13 points and 15 rebounds followed by Benny Williams, So Forward from Syracuse, with 11 pts, 8 reb. Newman lead the guards in scoring with 9 points.

Morton - 12min, 4pts, 6reb, 3ast, 1stl

Newman - 16min, 9pts, 4reb, 1ast, 0stl

The third game was a 85-68 win over Catalan All-Stars. Hughley and Newman lead team USA in scoring with 17 points each.

Morton - 17min, 0pts, 3reb, 4ast, 0stl

Newman - 13min, 17pts, 2reb, 0ast, 0stl

Just from my brief review of box scores, Newman appeared to be the most consistent scoring guard, while KJ Simpson appears to be a very well rounded and productive combo guard. Just from looking at the stats, they were probably the 2 lead guards in terms of production. I wish I could see shooting splits or turnovers or anything like that... but even if we had that its tough to really learn much from this stuff given the even minutes distribution and the level of competition. Probably a fun trip and confidence boost for both players, but especially Newman since he seemed to take on a role where he got to just go score and appears at least to have done well at that.
