Can Purdue pull off the upset today?
It has been a very long time since Purdue beat a ranked Notre dame in South Bend. You are looking back at 1974 for that. This is a somewhat vulnerable Notre Dame team though. The offensive line is shaky and the running game has not been established. Florida State and toledo took them to the brink in the first two weeks of the season, and Purdue might be better than both of those.
This is not a must-win for Purdue by any means, but a victory has Purdue looking at a 4-0 start with a weaker Illinois team coming to town next week and even a potential top 25 ranking, something else that has not happened in 14 years. Last year Purdue had a chance to seize a ranking with a win over Northwestern and didn’t get it. It had the same in 2018 against Michigan State and failed. Is the third time the charm?
It is a “turn the Brohm era around” type of game.
