UConn football famously plays in Hartford, pretty far from campus. Connecticut isn’t that large of a state, so we are open to quite a few brewing options. It just so happens that I have a cousin that lives in Colchester, about 20 miles from UConn’s Stadium, so I asked him for a local beer recommendation. He suggested Willimantic Brewing.
967 Main Street
Willimantic, CT 06226
Willibrew, as it is called for short, is also just about 20 miles from the stadium, so local readers should be able to get something nice before heading over. My cousin described it as being in an old granite and limestone post office building. The website says the building was built in 1909, so it is a brewery with some old school charm. Their location has a full food menu and growlers to go.
Here are some of their good looking options:
Willibrew Carrier’s Credo Cream Ale - 5.5% ABV
Our interpretation of this iconic style, brewed w/ 2-Row, Carapils, flaked Maize and hopped with Hallertau this Cream Ale is easy to please!
Willibrew Certified Gold - 4.7% ABV
Our flagship Golden ale that is balanced with Munich malt and Goldings hops, also a touch of Hallertau hops for aroma.
Willibrew Zip Code: Red - 5.5% ABV
A RED Ale brewed with six malts, local buckwheat honey, Amarillo and Crystal hops. Malty with subtle sweetness and a crisp finish!
Willibrew Base Jumper Pils - 5.1% ABV
Unfiltered Pilsner brewed with a fruity yeast that makes it crisp and delicious! Perfect for the summer sun!
They also have a number of different IPAs available if that is your thing. Remember, this is af family recommendation, so it should be good! Get some before tomorrow’s game if you’re headed out there.
