We’re into the single digits, and today’s player is one primed for a breakout year.
Mershawn Rice - So.
Reynoldsburg, OH (Reynoldsburg, OH)
6’2”, 200 pounds
Wide Receiver
2021 Projection: Contributor
Rice’s time is now. He came to Purdue as a 4-star athlete in the same recruiting class as Milton Wright, TJ Sheffield, and David Bell, giving us an embarrassment of riches at the receiver position. Of those four he has contributed the least so far. Injuries have limited to a single game appearance in each of the last two seasons.
Rice still has a load of talent. He comes from a school that went 10-2 his senior year and in a more run-oriented offense he caught 22 passes for 462 yards as a senior. He also played defensive back.
I think Rice can have breakout year, and with Wright and Bell drawing the attention of defenses there will be open holes for him to exploit.
