Purdue’s spot at kicker is still open for the next few years, and today’s player might be a solution.

Ben Freehill - So.

Gibson City, IL (Gibson City Melvin-Sibley HS)

6’1”, 180 pounds

Kicker

2021 Projection: Reserve

This is Freehill’s second year at Purdue, as he spent the 2019 season as a preferred walk-on at Oklahoma State before transferring closer to him. He did not play that year.

In high school he was the top rated kicker in the state of Illinois during the 2019 recruiting cycle. He was part of consecutive Class 2A state championship teams in the state of Illinois. He also handled punts and kickoffs as his team’s all-around specialist.

With Mitchell Fineran expected to win the kicking job Freehill might be a decent option as a kickoff specialist. He could also be a more long term answer since Fineran is a one year graduate transfer. Per the IHSA website he had a 50 yard field goal as his only attempt leading into the 2017 state championship game. His kicking stats were not listed for 2018.
