So much for Zach Edey joining Jaden Ivey and Caleb Furst in Latvia this summer. It appears he has bigger goals in mind, as Wes Brown, a Canadian basketball scout for The Monday Morning Scouting Report is reporting that he has made the Canadian Senior National Team:
I can confirm from a Source that Zach Edey is with the Senior Men’s National Team— Wes Brown (@wesblairbrown) June 25, 2021
If true, this would be the first time a Purdue player has made a men’s senior national team since Glenn Robinson was picked to go to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, but backed out due to injury. Obviously this is a HGUE honor for Zach. The Canadians invited 14 active NBA players to camp including R.J. Barrett, Cory Joseph, Trey Lyles, and Andrew Wiggins.
Team Canada now goes to the Olympic Qualifying Tournament held in Victoria, British Columbia. Canada is in Group A for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament and will face Greece (June 29 - 7:05 PM ET) and China (June 30 - 7:05 PM ET) in the Group Phase, while Uruguay, Czech Republic and Turkey have been drawn into Group B for the Victoria FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. We have further confirmation.
