It took a while for today’s player to reach the field, but as he enters his fifth year he has earned a decent amount of playing time.

Robert McWilliams III - Sr. (5)

South Miami, FL (Coral Gables HS)

6’4”, 235 pounds

Linebacker

2021 Projection: Contributor

McWilliams is a testament to patience. he is a three-time Academic all-Big Ten selection. It has taken him a while to get to the field, however. He signed as one of Jeff Brohm’s first recruiting class which had a few holdovers from when it was started under Darrell Hazell. This was after a career where he was an all-Miami-Dade County selection from Coral Gables High in the backyard of Da U. He had 75 tackles and 10 sacks as a senior.

In his first three seasons on campus he only played in a total of nine games, notching a single tackle for loss against Illinois in 2018 as his only statistic. mostly he was a special teamer. In last year’s abbreviated season he appeared in five games and even started once, notching four tackles.

As we enter 2021 McWilliams should be a contributor as a reserve. He also graduated this spring with a degree in kinesiology, so he is already working on a Masters.
