Madison Layden had a stellar freshman season for the Purdue Boilermakers and has caught the eye of the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Selection Committee as she was invited to the USA Basketball U19 Team Trials coming up from May 14-16th in Denver, Colorado!
Layden is one of 27 invitees that will be competing for a spot on Team USA during the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup. Should she be one of the 12 women chosen, she will travel to Debrecen, Hungary where the games will be held in August.
This is high praise for a player that could very well be the future of the Boilermakers program over the next three seasons in West Lafayette. Layden posted a line of 8.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists during her rookie campaign, while also shooting 40.5% from the three-point range.
She joins Sakima Walker of Rutgers, Angel Reese of Maryland, and Iowa’s Caitlin Clark as the four Big Ten standouts in attendance for these trials. More information regarding Layden’s invite and the event as a whole can be found in the tweet below from Purdue Women’s Basketball.
Good luck, Madison! Boiler Up!
