Brian Waddell, the two time state champion from the Carmel Greyhounds, appears to have nabbed a late offer from Coach Matt Painter.

Brian appears to be a late bloomer of the 2021 class and many are saying he is the best unsigned player in the state of Indiana at this point. He has had some interest from MAC (Miami of Ohio and Wright State) level schools, but it appears that Coach Matt Painter has seen enough from the wing man.

There is some history here as well. Coach Painter and Brian’s dad, Matt Waddell played together at Purdue. The Matts played together for two years, before Waddell took over as the full time guard, where he played with Big Dog in two championship seasons.

Brian and his father’s game have some resemblance, too. Both have been touted as knock down shooters who can get to the bucket when needed, but make their mark with their jump shots.

At a growing 6-7 frame, I see Brian as a potential 2 or 3 if he chooses Purdue. He would join a highly touted class, with Trey Kauffman-Renn and Caleb Furst - all three are state champions.

While under the radar and not really on recruiting sites, I love the offer by Coach Painter. Brian is a proven winner and has gotten better every year and is just beginning to touch his potential peak. He will continue to grow and become a better all around basketball player, too.

If he is anything like his father, he is a 4 year guy that is going to be a big time contributor and will do the little things to help this Purdue Program win.

It really reminds me a lot of the P.J. Thompson offer, who was under recruited, but had that winning attitude to him and always played with a chip on his shoulder.

Brian, if you choose Purdue, welcome! Boiler Up!
