Today’s the day that if you see a number you don’t know from a 765 area code it is probably coming from someone at Purdue asking you for money. That’s right, it’s Purdue Day of Giving. Purdue’s Day of Giving? Not sure what the correct grammar is there. The website is Purdue Day of Giving but it just seems a bit off to me. Oh well, I digress.
For those that don’t know, the day of giving is a big push by all involved at the University to try to get as much money donated in a day as possible. As of this writing Purdue has received 5,957 donations totaling just over $9 million. That’s a pretty good chunk of change. This is also the day when they will tell you about donations that they’ve tucked away and saved for this day in order to make a splash. You’ll also hear about matching donations from wealthy folks encouraging you to donate more so that your dollar is doubled!
The website sets up hourly challenges to see which organization can get the most donations during that hour or the most amount of money in that hour or even the most selfies. Look, whatever they need to do to get the money they’ll give it a shot. Especially as we are slowly coming out of Covid there are a lot of great organizations out there that could use a financial boost athletics of course being one of them. Being forced to forego fans in so many games really put a dent in the bottom line, so much so that the Ross-Ade expansion is on hold.
If you’d like to donate to your school (Go Krannert!) or to athletics, or the band, or anything in between, today is the day! Find the link and all the details below. Purdue thanks you!
