First off, I wanted to start by apologizing for a few things from the last game’s article that ended up not being the case.
Now, today’s game in Bloomington was indeed the final regular season game of the season for the Boilermakers. Purdue was not able to replicate their success in the Illinois game and fell to the Hoosiers by a score of 74-59.
This team had nothing to lose, came out fighting and performed pretty well throughout the first half of the game. Purdue actually had a brief lead thanks to a Ra Shaya Kyle layup put the Boilermakers ahead 27-26 with 2:57 left in the first half.
As fans know, that fight can only get teams so far. In the second half, the #10 Indiana Hoosiers started flexing their muscles and showed why they are a top 10 team in the country. The fourth quarter is where the game got out of hand as it was just a two point ball game until the final period. Purdue was outscored 21-8 when they had a rivalry game win in sights, but just could not make the plays to finish the upset.
Purdue ends the 2020-21 regular season at an abysmal 7-15 overall record, while going 4-14 during conference play. A very tough season getting capped off by yet another embarrassing loss to their arch rival. The writing is on the wall, Sharon Versyp will be gone following the Big Ten Tournament, which starts next week on the Women’s side at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
