Due to the great start of the year got me thinking of Matt Painters contract. Doing some research I found him listed well below his market value as the 36th ranked coach in the nation. Behind guys like Larry Krystowak, Frank Martin, Kermit Davis and even Cunzo Martin. Fellow big ten coaches paid more include Izzo, Chris Holtman, Brad Underwood, Mark Turgeon, Fred Hoiberg, Juwan Howard, and Mike Woodson. Having him 8th in the big ten seems crazy to me.
My question is do you think he is so loyal he will never leave and is fine with below market deals? Or do you think if we make a final 4 run or deeper a school with deeper resources will come calling? Or do you think we would be willing to double his salary if necessary to put him among the 5-10 highest paid coaches in the country?
