Purdue Football Recruiting: Zion Steptoe Commits!

Purdue loses a wide receiver, then gets a commit minutes later.

NCAA Football: Minnesota at Purdue Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports

Purdue loss disgruntled wide receiver Marcellus Moore to the portal yesterday.

Then, minutes later, longtime target, Zion Steptoe committed to our Boilers.

Name: Zion Steptoe

Size: 6-0, 175 Pounds

Rating: 3*

Other offers: Utah, Air Force Arkansas State, Kansas, Hawaii, Kentucky, Pitt, Syracuse, Vandy

Thoughts:

Steptoe, a 3 star wide receiver from Frisco, Texas, has been a longtime recruit for Coach Shepherd. At 6-0, 175 Pounds, Steptoe should project as a slot. Though, in high school, he has played the slot and outside receiver positions.

Zion has elite speed, boasting a 4.41 40 on his HUDL page. He has some solid route running ability as well and shows soft hands on his highlight films. I do think he could be a player that at some point during his Purdue career, will be a starter. I won’t say that will happen right away, but he could make the two deep early in his career.

He does remind me a bit of TJ Sheffield, similar speed, routes and size.
