Purdue vs Minnesota: Grading the Boilers

Another offensive struggle.

Syndication: Journal-Courier Nikos Frazier / Journal & Courier / USA TODAY NETWORK

Purdue Offense: D

The Purdue Offense is.. struggling to say the least. Take away the UCONN game and this offense is averaging only 17 points per game. Brohm is an alleged offensive guru, but this season and last have me questioning that. How can he take the next step? The lack of run game continues to hurt us, though Doerue did look solid this week. The stats look good, but we aren’t scoring. We turn the ball over too often and do not convert red zone possessions into touchdowns.

13 freaking points 3 weeks in a row.

Purdue Defense: B+

On the other end of the spectrum is the Purdue Defense, a defense that continues to surge and give the offense plenty of chances to win football games. They are only allowing right around 16 points per game.

The obvious emphasis on the defense has worked this year. Keeping an opponent under 20 should be more than enough to win a game, especially when the offense is supposed to be dominant.

Special Teams: C-

Special Teams took a step back this week after a solid performance vs Illinois. A missed field goal and a couple of bad punts brings this grade down. Coverage on punt and kick off was suspect at best.
