Getting some of the top productive players in the state of Indiana is always a good strategy for walk-ons. They are good enough o push starters in practice, and occasionally develop into something more like Grady Eifert and Dru Anthrop. Today was feature one of the longest tenured walk-ons.
Matt Frost – Jr.
Columbus, IN (Columbus East HS)
6’5”, 200 pounds
Forward
2021-22 Projection: Deep Reserve
Frost had a solid career at Columbus East. He averaged 14.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.2 steals for the Olympians and was the local Player of the Year in 2019. He played varsity all four years. His teams hovered around .500 overall, but were competitive against some of the state’s best, including a 55-52 loss to a very good Bloomington South team in the 2018 sectional.
He has now been a walk-on at Purdue for two years and has played in a total of 11 games. In 2019-20 he got into nine games and scored two points with one rebound. Last year he played in two games and scored five points, hitting a three-pointer against Oakland and a layup against Penn State.
Because of Purdue’s incredible depth Frost is another victory cigar player, only seeing game action in blowouts, but as an experienced walk-on he’ll be counted on in practice.
