It is always good to see the kids of Purdue legends come home, and that is who we get to feature today.
Chase Martin - So.
Columbia, MO (Tolton HS)
6’3”. 180 pounds
Guard
2021-22 Projection: Deep Reserve
Chase Martin will be mostly known as being Cuonzo Martin’s son. He was born in West Lafayette when his dad was an assistant coach here and played his high school ball in Columbia, Missouri, where his dad is currently coaching. He was named All-Conference and All-District as a senior, and helped Tolton to the district title as a sophomore.
Martin would probably have been a much higher rated recruit, but an injury as a freshman in high school really hampered his career:
What started as discomfort turned into pain, and from there, an inability to play due to the risk of breaking his leg. The Martins sought multiple medical opinions before he underwent surgery in December 2016. A rod was inserted to stabilize his femur.
He ended up missing a lot of time, as a second surgery was later required. He comes to Purdue as his class valedictorian and an engineering major. He only played in two games last season: against Oakland and at Penn State, notching a rebound and a steal.
Martin is another deep reserve as a practice player and victory cigar that plays late in blowouts, but it is great to have the son of a legend in the program.
