Purdue-Minnesota: Gold Jerseys?

Do we see a surprise tomorrow?

Purdue last wore gold jerseys in the 2003 season opener, a 27-26 loss at home to Bowling Green that eventually prevented us from having a 10-win season. They ended up being a special one-off jersey, as they were the first gold jerseys with black numbers after a season of hard-to-read gold jerseys with white numbers. The team didn’t like them because of the loss, so the next home game against Arizona, a 59-7 win, was time to be Back in Black.

There are now some rumors that there are going to be gold jerseys tomorrow, including this spotted in the wild at the team store per @BoilerUniforms.

It is also possible because an official uniform reveal has not happened yet, and the marketing team usually does that on Thursdays.

As far as gold jerseys go, it’s okay, but I prefer a solid gold as opposed to a gold mixed with black. I also prefer the shiny gold from the Stu Schweigert days too.

Still, I have wanted to have an alternate gold jersey for some time and basketball has had them forever. This looks like a mix between those basketball ones and the black regular football unit.

We’ll see tomorrow.
