Purdue Football: Geovonte’ Howard Returns to Purdue

The Junior College Corner is coming back to Purdue after announcing he was transferring early this off-season.

Purdue got some more good news today just hours after Greg Long announced he was staying an additional year.

Howard, the Junior College transfer from Kilgore Community College announced shortly after the season he would be taking his talents elsewhere, which was disappointing to me, as I think Howard has great ability.

But, after being in the portal, he has decided to stay put. People want to speculate on some websites was that “he could not find a home” or “he was going back to junior college”.

That is bologna. Howard is a very good talent that will find his way on the field this season. After no spring ball or basically summer ball and a late start to the season with a new defensive coordinator who was obviously a terrible fit, he was upset and deservingly so, there are rumors many defensive players were.

What I am speculating is that Howard along with his teammates know who the defensive coordinator is going to be along with the hire of Mark Hagen and are excited for the direction the defense may be headed.

The secondary should have plenty of depth for the 2021 season and technically, Howard has two years remaining at Purdue after the 2020 season did affect eligibility.

My way too early secondary depth looks like this:

CB1: Cory Trice

CB/Nickel: Geovonte’ Howard

CB2: Dedrick Mackey

FS: Cam Allen

SS: Marvin Grant
