We have another former Boiler that has been named a team captain in the NFL, and he is one of my favorite. Ricardo Allen was an electric Purdue player, notching 13 interceptions in his career, second only to Stu Schweigert’s 17. Allen also returned a record four for touchdowns. Yesterday he was named a captain for the Atlanta Falcons:
The Atlanta Falcons announced six captains for the 2020 season on Thursday. Those players are wide receiver Julio Jones, quarterback Matt Ryan, linebacker Deion Jones, defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, center Alex Mack and safety Ricardo Allen.
In the League Allen has moved over to Strong safety, where he has had a solid career. He has 315 tackles and nine interceptions in his career. He is also in the second year of a three-year, $19.5 million contact. Rico has had an excellent career so far, but let’s hope he doesn’t pick off Drew Brees in their two games this season.
