Today we feature a player that was recruited by a few schools as a two-star recruit, but Purdue picked him up as a preferred walk-on.
Ben Buechel - Fr.
New Berlin, WI (Eisenhower HS)
6’3”, 210 pounds
Tight End
2020 projection: likely redshirt
Buechel is an interesting pickup. He had originally committed to Air Force last October, but Purdue came in with a preferred walk-on offer and he made the switch. His high school played a run heavy offense last year, but he still caught 25 passes for 339 yards and four touchdowns. Here are his highlights:
His hometown paper was also excited to see him head to West Lafayette:
Purdue didn’t sign a tight end in its 2020 recruiting class, but it will welcome preferred walk-on Ben Buechel into the fold. The 6-4, 210-pound Buechel was headed to Air Force until he had a change of heart and instead opted to be a preferred walk-on at Purdue after he said he had a few offers from FCS and D-2 schools. Buechel will join a tight end ranks that lost standout Brycen Hopkins but welcomes back sophomore Payne Durham along with redshirt freshmen Kyle Bilodeau and Garrett Miller.
