Freshman Football Spotlight: Ryan Brandt

Will the in state outside linebacker make an impact?

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: OCT 05 Purdue at Penn State Photo by Gregory Fisher/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Name: Ryan Brandt

Position & Size: Outside Linebacker, 6-1, 210 Pounds

Hometown: Angola, Indiana (Angola High School)

Strengths: Athleticism, Football IQ, Open Field Tackling, Multiple Positions Played in HS

Weaknesses: Small for B1G LB (Now!), OLB in 3-4 or Safety?

2020 Prediction: Redshirt

Ryan Brandt is the perfect in state commit.

He committed early and has long wanted to be a Purdue Boilermaker. Well, he got his wish.

In High School, he played some outside linebacker as well as playing some roll safety for a pretty good Angola High School Football Team.

The question now remains, is he an outside linebacker at Purdue of a Safety? For a 3-4 Defense, where the outside linebacker could potentially be a rush end, he is a bit small. But, Jalen Graham is about 6-3, 220 Pounds and will be playing that spot.

It is feasible to think that the plan with Brandt is to play that same position. The Outside Linebacker that seems to drop in coverage and play the wide side of the field more so than rush the passer.

Regardless of where he players for Coach Diaco, we know Ryan will work his butt off to get on the field as soon as possible.
