Purdue Basketball: Eric Hunter Jr. Prediction

What is next for the up and coming guard?

NCAA Basketball: Rutgers at Purdue Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Eric Hunter Jr.

6-4, 175 Pounds

Combo Guard

Indianapolis, IN (Tindley Prep)

2019-2020 Stats: 10.6 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 2.6 APG, 31.5 MPG, 30 Starts

2020-2021 Prediction: 15 PPG, 4 RPG, 4 APG, 31 MPG

Eric Hunter Jr. made some great strides during his sophomore season.

But, there is still room for improvement.

His 3 point % went from 21% as a freshman to 35.5% as a sophomore, he will only continue to get better there. His assist to turnover ratio was essentially 1:1. With being the team’s primary ball handler this upcoming season, I would love to see that improve to a 2:1 ratio.

He started all but one game last season, so, in my mind, there is nothing to say he won’t start every game this season, if with the talented incoming freshman class.

Hunter is our most experience guard, as he played about 12 MPG as a frosh and over 30 MPG last year.

I do believe Hunter becomes our 2nd leading scorer behind the big man, Trevion Williams, who dominates the touches in the post, as he should.

Not only will he be leaned upon offensively, Hunter with his length and athleticism will be our best perimeter defender this upcoming season, he showed flashes of defensive greatness this past season, where he averaged a steal per game.

Hunter will bring great veteran leadership as the lead guard for our Boilers. With senior guard Nojel Eastern gone, Hunter has a great opportunity to be the leader this young, but talented class will look too.
