Normally day 51 on the countdown means we’re about halfway through, but who knows when (if?) the season will start now. Let’s keep it going anyway as we feature an incoming freshman.
Chase Triplett - Fr.
Michigan City, IN (Michigan City HS)
6’3”, 215 pounds
Linebacker
2020 Projection: Possible redshirt
Triplett is a very curious entry on the scholarship chart. He is believed to be a greyshirt member of the 2019 recruiting class. Basically, he was recruited as part of that class, but did not enroll until spring semester this year. That makes him a true freshman this fall and he can still officially redshirt.
Triplett was the first commit for hte 2019 class, so we have waited a while for him. We will likely still be waiting too as Tom Dienhart at Gold and Black sees him as not quite ready yet:
Yep, I probably should have included him. Purdue deferred this enrollment, as the two-star Rivals.com signee from Michigan City, Ind., was part of the 2019 recruiting class (first verbal commit, in fact) … and he finally is on campus. Saw him at bit at spring drills in March. At 6-3, 215, Triplett probably projects as a “DOG,” working on the field side. I just haven’t seen enough of him to get a feel on his skills. Triplett is a work in progress who likely isn’t ready to contribute.
According to his hometown newspaper Triplett carried a 4.0 GPA in high school. In his final two years at Michigan City the Wolves were 19-7 and won a pair of regional championships, losing to Kokomo and New Palestine in the semi-state, respectively. They were both he first sectional and regional titles in school history.
