We’re starting to see some of the true freshmen on the roster get their numbers, including today’s player.
Josh Kaltenberger - Fr.
Harmony, PA (Seneca Valley HS)
6’5”, 285 pounds
Offensive Line
2020 Projection: Likely redshirt
Being a true freshman offensive lineman almost always means a redshirt year. Kaltenberger is probably headed that way. He is a three-star recruit by most of the recruiting services and played mostly center in high school. With Viktor Beach and Sam Garvin expected to play that spot it is another reason for a probable redshirt here.
Purdue was Kaltenberger’s first Power 5 offer per his hometown newspaper:
“I had my list of Power 5 schools that hadn’t offered me yet and they were No. 1 on the list,” Kaltenberger said. “When they offered, in my mind, I said, ‘Why wait?’ If this is my No. 1, which it is, why should I wait any longer to commit? I knew it was somewhere I loved. I knew it was a dream school. I know it was quick, but nothing could top it.”
Kaltenberger (6 feet 5, 285 pounds) boasted 25 offers overall. He said Temple, Miami (Ohio), Colorado State and Liberty were a few of his favorites.
But after attending a camp at Purdue last Monday and touring the facilities and talking to coaches Tuesday, Kaltenberger said he was hooked. Purdue coaches must have felt the same way about Kaltenberger, as they called him that night to extend him an offer.
