Would be senior guard for Purdue’s Women’s Basketball team joined me via Skype to formally announce that she will be retiring from the game of basketball due to concussion issues that held her out of last season.
The Canadian native not only suited up for the Boilermakers, but she did so many great things off the court at Purdue and in the community.
She created the Wheel Rise Event to assist Paralympic athletes with help from Purdue athletics and the University’s Engineering Department and will continue to grow it into an annual event. She is also created a student-led group called “RISE” to help bridge the gap between Engineering and Athletics at Purdue.
In addition to doing amazing things to help improve the community and Purdue, she was an Academic All-Big Ten TWICE while majoring in Engineering.
Léony is the model student-athlete and person that everybody should strive to be like and is what Boilermakers are supposed to be. On behalf of Boilermaker Nation, thank you for everything you have done and will continue to do throughout the rest of your days at Purdue, Léony!
