The walk-on has emerged as a potential starter in the middle.

There has been some question as to whether today’s player is on scholarship or not. Until I hear otherwise I will keep him off the scholarship chart, but he has still emerged as potential starter.

Sam Garvin - Jr.

Fishers, IN (Hamilton Southeastern HS)

2020 Projection: Potential Starter

Last year Garvin emerged as a bit of a surprise, splitting time with Viktor Beach at center. Garvin ended up starting nine games in his first season after walking on in 2018. He wasn’t an ordinary walk-on, however. Garvin originally went to Indiana, spending the fall semester in Bloomington with the Hoosiers. He then left and headed north to God’s Country.

It was a longer path than normal, but Garvin has clearly found a home in West Lafayette. He enters this season as a potential starter, battling Beach for the starting spot in the middle of the line. Given that Garvin started the final six games of last season he might even have a leg up on Beach.
