The walk-on came somewhat close to seeing the field last season.

Last season was an injury plagued season for Purdue. It was significant that at one point today’s player, a walk-on well down he depth chart, nearly saw significant playing time in one game.

Camdyn Childers - Fr. (RS)

Fort Wayne, IN (Carroll HS)

6’, 195 pounds

Wide Receiver

2020 Projection: Deep reserve

Last season at Penn State Purdue was in dire straits at receiver. Thanks to a wealth of injuries we were down to three receivers that has even caught a pass in their careers in Jackson Anthrop, David Bell, and Amad Anderson Jr. I seem to recall we only travelled with six, and Childers was one of them as a true freshman walk-on.

He did put up some very good numbers for Carroll HS up near Fort Wayne, however. In his senior season he caught 62 passes for 985 yards and 11 touchdowns. That wasn’t bad for a team that went 3-7 and lost int he opening round of the state tournament.

Given the wealth of talent Purdue has at receiver Childers is likely well down on the depth chart, but he is still a quality practice player.
