Purdue always needs depth, and after Cornel Jones left the program unexpectedly it definitely needed it at linebacker. Today’s player is one that is primed to fill that role.

Saunders was one of last year’s true freshmen that took full advantage of the new rule that allows a player to play up to four games and maintain his redshirt. He ended up appearing in three games overall, notching two tackles. Here are his high school highlights.
I definitely think Saunders can have a breakout season this year. The linebacker position seems to be wide open with only Jaylan Alexander returning with significant experience. DaMarcus Mitchell was brought in to play immediately as a JuCo transfer linebacker, and there are several others on the roster, but Saunders is likely going to get every chance to start.
