Notre Dame has had it long time TV dealw ith NBC as an independent for ages. BYU is also independent and has its own TV Network. Now UConn has a TV network deal as a new FBS independent:
UConn has agreed to a multi-year television deal that will put most of its home football games on CBS Sports Network.
The school did not disclose the financial terms of the four-year deal but said it is worth seven figures.
Under the contract, the network will televise four UConn home games in 2020 and all home games from 2021-2023.
So what does this have to do with Purdue? Well, Purdue is currently slated to play at UConn on September 21, 2021. That means that game will be on CBS Sports Network.
This is a chance to break a double hex. First, Purdue has played on CBS Sports Network twice and lost both games on last snap field goal situations. In 2011 Purdue’s game-winning field goal attempt was blocked as time expired at Rice. In 2019 Purdue lost on a bomb of a last second field goal at Nevada.
Purdue has also not done well on the road against Group of Five competition. It has lost its last four such games, going back to the 52-24 win at Toledo to start the 2007 season.
2019 at Nevada - 34-31 loss
2015 at Marshall - 41-31 loss
2013 at Cincinnati - 42-7 loss
2011 at Rice - 24-22 loss
The good news is that the last time Purdue won a road Group of Five game it was later ranked that season. Purdue also did get a road win at Missouri in 2017.
