Rams fans, you are getting a tight end that will be absolutely perfect in your system. Sean McVay loves to use multiple tight ends and love to get creative with them. Hopkins is just right for that.
You are also getting a player who was lightly recruited out of high school. He worked his ass off to get to this point. This past season, he may have been our biggest mismatch for defenses, as he totaled up over 800 yards receiving and 7 touchdowns.
He has room to improve with blocking, but with the NFL Strength program you have, and the new strength coach for the Rams being Purdue’s old one, there is some familiarity built in to the strength program.
While he has room to improve, he is far from a project. He is a polished route runner, maybe the best one in the draft for his position. Some had Hopkins rated as their best tight end, but the poor blocking had him fall a bit.
Overall, Brycen is a pretty polished tight end prospect for a late 4th round selection. He will work his ass off to get better, will run great routes and will do anything that is asked of him.
As of now it appears the Rams have Higbee and Everett on their roster at tight end. Do not be surprised if he pushes in for at least a back up position and maybe the go to tight end for passing downs. He can play on the Line of Scrimmage, but also split out to cause even more mismatches.
Brycen, best of luck to you in LA. We know you will make us proud back at Purdue. Boiler Up. Go Rams.
