2020 Indiana High School Basketball State Tournament: Sectional Semifinal Scores

New, 8 comments

The 64 sectional finals are now set.

The Friday night of sectionals is always a busy one as the tournament goes from 256 teams to 128. As expected, there were a lot of great games around the state. Lawrence North knocked off a top 10 team for the second night in a row, defending 4A champion Carmel won on a buzzer beater, and Purdue commit Caleb Furst won with ease.

CLASS 4A

East Chicago Central

Merrillville 63, Munster 53

Merrillville upset No. 4 rated Munster, who was 21-1 coming in and had beaten Merrillville by 18 during the regular season.

Valparaiso

Chesterton 63, Crown Point 52

LaPorte

Culver Academy 66, Plymouth 24

South Bend Adams 56, Michigan City 52

Indiana commit Trey Galloway has trouble moving on even thought Culver is playing up in class this season. They get a tough South Bend Adams team I saw earlier this season.

Westfield won on a free throw with 2.3 seconds left and Carmel, the defending 4A state champ, won at the buzzer:

Roosevelt is a great story if they win this. They have had to play all road games this season due to maintenance issues at the school and have now won two games to reach the sectional final. They won only two games in the regular season, but have now won two in the tournament. Also, Andrean is the first defending champion to go down as they won last year in 2A.
