Dakota Mathias named to 2019-20 Midseason All-NBA G League team

Give the Midwestern Cowboy a contract Mark Cuban!

The NBA G-League announced their 2019-20 Midseason All-NBA G League teams today and former Boilermaker, Dakota Mathias, was selected to the Western Conference squad.

After playing overseas in Spain and getting a summer league shot with the Los Angeles Lakers, Mathias signed a deal with the Dallas Mavericks in July of 2019 and has been apart of the Texas Legends, who are the Mavericks G-League affiliate this year.

The Midwestern Cowboy has been a solid contributor for the Legends this season and is being rewarded as such. Mathias has started all 33 games he has played in this year while averaging 18.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3 assists per contest. He is also shooting 39% from three-point range and has made 3.5 threes per game.

Dakota is well-deserving of a shot with the Mavericks given his outstanding play this season but would appear to have a hard time securing playing time behind Tim Hardaway Jr., Seth Curry, and Delon Wright all getting a healthy amount of minutes per game.

Dallas also used both of their two-way contracts on guards Antonius Cleveland along with former Penn State Nittany Lion Josh Reaves. This could be another reason why Mathias has not been given the opportunity to make an impact with the Mavs. Regardless, Dakota has shown that he can fill it up, get some boards and distribute the basketball just like he did for Matt Painter at Purdue.

Boilermaker fans will continue to call for Mathias to get a 10-Day contract at the very least, and if Dakota keeps up the solid play, they might not have to wait too long.
