I didn’t have a good feeling when Caleb Swanigan opted out of the NBA bubble this summer with the Portland Trail Blazers, especially when he was in need of a contract for 2020-21. Now, it is worse, as he was arrested this morning in Whitley County for possession of marijuana:
A Homestead basketball standout and former Purdue defenseman was arrested Wednesday morning on a drug charge.
Caleb Swanigan, 23, was arrested in Whitley County and charged with dealing marijuana.
If you have no idea where Whitley County is I don’t blame you. It is just west of Fort Wayne with only a population of 33,000, most of that in Columbia City. It is not a place where you expect to find a former NBA player (though Brad Miller is a county up in Noble County). Biggie was up and down in his three-year NBA career, with his best game coming in his home state where he had a double-double early in his career. He spent a lot of time in the G-League and some time in Sacramento, but was never able to stick despite a stealer two-year college career.
I really hope he can get it together.
