With COVID causing havoc with non-conference schedules and our next open date coming in 2027 there was always a chance an ACC team could make an appearance. Having lost our return trip to Boston College this season that might have been a good spot for it, but we will be playing another ACC team instead:
A large part of not going to Boston College in 2027 is likely that it would be a road game and Purdue would prefer to stay at home and have a 7th home game. The Eagles also already have Big Ten games with Ohio State and Rutgers.
As of now, Purdue will open the 2027 season at Notre Dame on September 4th, then host North Carolina on September 11th and Miami (OH) on September 18th. The Big Ten schedule beyond 2025 has not yet been released, but under the current format Purdue has five Big Ten home games and four Big Ten road games in odd-numbered years.
This also leaves the next open date for any potential Boston College (or Memphis or Air Force) rescheduling in 2029, as all three 2028 non-conference dates are full with Western Illinois, at Wake Forest, and Notre Dame.
Purdue will make the return trip to Chapel Hill on September 13, 2031. This is the first of the 2031 dates now filled.
Here is your updated non-conference schedule:
2021: Oregon State, at Connecticut, at Notre Dame
2022: Indiana State, at Syracuse, Florida Atlantic
2023: Fresno State, at Virginia Tech, Syracuse
2024: Indiana State, Notre Dame, at Oregon State
2025: Ball State, Connecticut, at Notre Dame
2026: Wake Forest, Indiana State, Notre Dame
2027: at Notre Dame, Miami (OH), North Carolina
2028: Western Illinois, at Wake Forest, Notre Dame
2029: at Vanderbilt, OPEN DATE, OPEN DATE
2030: at TCU, OPEN DATE, OPEN DATE
2031: at North Carolina, OPEN DATE, OPEN DATE
2032: All three dates open
2033: at Ole Miss, OPEN DATE, OPEN DATE
2034: Ole Miss, OPEN DATE, OPEN DATE
Barring a pre-2027 meeting in a bowl game this will be the first time Purdue and North Carolina will play in football. It also continues a trend of non-conference series with ACC teams as Purdue currently has the second half of home-and-homes pending with Virginia Tech and Boston College as well as full home-and-homes with Syracuse, Wake Forest, and North Carolina. We also have six games scheduled with ACC-adjacent Notre Dame.
