22 Days to Purdue Basketball: Chase Martin

The son of a legend comes home.

Cuonzo Martin

It is always good to see a legacy athlete come home where mom or dad played. That’s today’s new freshman walk-on for Purdue basketball.

2020-21 Projection: Deep reserve

Yes, the son of former Purdue great Cuonzo Martin has come home as a preferred walk-on. He is even wearing dad’s old number, too. Here are some high school highlights:

Martin had a rough road to Purdue, otherwise he would possibly have been a high rated recruit. He lost his freshman year of high school to a bone cyst on his femur. He eventually developed into a player that averaged around 11 points per game last season.

You know he is going to play hard. His dad did under coach Keady. It led to an extremely brief NBA career (just seven games), but his dad did win a pair of Big Ten titles. He also scored 1,666 points (currently 15th all-time, but 11th at his time of graduation), the highest career 3-point percentage in school history (45.1%), and at the time he left no one had hit more threes than ‘zo (he is now 10th).
