Purdue Football: Purdue vs Wisconsin Game Cancelled

The Badgers couldn’t get over the Covid-19 hump.

Wisconsin was not able to get over the Covid-19 threshold.

From the looks of this tweet, they didn’t get close. The game will go into the record books as a no-contest and will not be made up. Purdue will play a 7 game schedule.

This, of course, is frustrating news for the Boilermakers after starting the season 2-0. Wisconsin was a barometer game for the Purdue program. I was interested to see how Bob Diaco’s new defense stacked up against the power Wisconsin running game, regardless of who started at quarterback for the Badgers. Now that useful bit of information will have to wait until next season.

On a positive note, this gives George Karlaftis, Sam Garvin, and dare I say...Rondale Moore another week to get healthy (or get whatever is holding up Rondale from playing settled). The coaching staff has two weeks of film to pore over and can coach the team hard the rest of this week knowing they have an open date on Saturday. It also takes one of Purdue’s traditional stumbling blocks off the schedule.

The Boilermakers next game is against Northwestern at 7:30 PM on November 14th and it could feature two unbeaten teams if the Wildcats can knock of the Cornhuskers. If Purdue can get past that game, the schedule suddenly looks extremely favorable.

I know this is disappointing, but such is life in 2020. If you’ve got any outdoor fall stuff you want to take care of, Saturday is the perfect day.

Y’all stay safe.
