Purdue Football Player Countdown: #34 Ryan Brandt

The final player on the countdown is an instate freshman linebacker.

NCAA Football: Texas Christian at Purdue Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports

We’ve reached the end of this countdown as today’s player is the final new roster addition for 2020 that had not already been profiled. The extra COVID time means that, for the first time, the entire roster is profiled here.

Ryan Brandt - Fr.

Angola, IN (Angola HS)

6’1, 210 pounds

Linebacker

2020 Projection: Likely redshirt

Brandt comes to us from a small school program in the far northeastern corner of the state. he had a great run as a safety/linebacker at Angola HS as well. In 2017 and 2018 he held Angola to a 24-2 record, but both seasons were ended with blowout losses to state power Fort Wayne Dwenger in the regional round. That meant a pair of sectional championships, however, the first for the schools since 1992.

Here is what he had to say at the time of his commitment:

“As of right now, I’ll be more suited for nickel or that outside linebacker spot,” Brandt said. “There’s a lot of technical stuff you have to get down for safety and I’ll have a lot of work to do if I’m going to play safety in the Big Ten. For me, it’s going to come down to which one I can perform the best at and give the most out there for the coaches and teammates.”

Brandt is probably a year away from seeing the field, but he is a talented prospect for sure:
