Desmond Howard Picks Rondale Moore to Win The Heisman

Reasonable expectations.

As I like to say around here, Rondale Moore is good at football. When you’re one of only three true freshmen to win consensus All-America honors ever that is a solid start to a career. Naturally, this means opponents will be watching out for him, but Desmond Howard thinks he is in line for a decent sophomore campaign:

Purdue has never had a Heisman Trophy winner. We last had a finalist when Drew Brees was 3rd in 2000 and 4th in 1999. Bob Griese and Leroy Keyes were both runner-ups back in the late 60’s, but to receive this nod from a former winner is high praise indeed.

Personally, while it would be fantastic if Rondale got it, I think he is going to have to go absolutely nuts to win it. The last player to win it that was not a quarterback or running back was Charles Woodson in 1997. The last strictly receiver to win it was Howard himself in 1991, and he was also a returner like Moore.

I am thinking it will take an absurd stat line like 150 receptions for 1,500 yards and 20 TDs, plus a few huge returns just because Purdue’s overall record is not going to be good enough to overcome someone like Tua Tagovailoa at Alabama. Still, it is nice to dream.

Oh, and we still have him for another season after this year.
