First it was Robbie Hummel winning 3x3 gold, now it is Jon Octeus in the Pan Am Games. 3x3 basketball will be part of next summer’s Olympics in Tokyo and there is a very good chance that team USA will have a pair of Boilers on the roster.

This year’s Pan Am Games are being played in Lima, Peru, and it is also the first time that 3x3 basketball has been part of them. Puerto Rico was the favorite, but in the gold medal game it was Octeus that put the finishing touches on the victory by hitting the winning free throws.

Team USA only went 2-3 in the preliminary rounds, losing to Brazil, Puerto Rico, and Argentina, but they recovered in the medal rounds to beat Brazil 21-12 and the Puerto Ricans 21-19.

As he was accepting his medal, Octeus dedicated his success to the memory of the late Collin Hartman.
