The junior linebacker is going to be a critical player for Purdue in 2019.

I love today’s player. He is entering his third year as a regular contributor and he brings a great edge to the defense.

Cornel Jones - Jr.

Miami, FL (Miami Central)

6’2”, 240 pounds

Linebacker

2019 Projection: Starter at Outside Linebacker

Before the Ohio State game last year the Buckeyes did some pregame jawing with Purdue and Jones was not going to take any of their shit. He was front and center defending Purdue in the pregame ruckus and followed it up with five tackles and solid defense in the win.

Jones has been a regular contributor in each of hte past two seasons and started 12 games last year. He finished with 69 tackles, 12.5 for loss, and 3.5 sacks. His 12.5 TFLs led the team, and we will need more of that aggressiveness this season. This was after notching only five tackles in eight games as a true freshman in 2017.

Jones is a winner too. He was part of three state championship teams at Miami Central High in Florida. We’ll need to rely on that this coming season, as he is going to be one of the best and most experienced players on the defense.
