65* Days Until Purdue Football: Marc Roland

*Okay really we’re 63 days away, but we may or may not have lost track...

As the Fourth of July holiday rolls around the corner, and many on staff start to travel across the country, the articles published here on H&R dwindle down a bit. Usually, we’ll have most of our articles written ahead of time and scheduled them to be published, but a few have fallen into the space between our car seats into the unknown, never to be seen again.

This includes one of our player profiles, Marc Roland, who was supposed to be featured two days ago, but somehow that article never saw the light of day.

Whoops.

Anyways, today we feature a redshirt sophomore walk-on, who is waiting for his chance to make some noise on the field this season.

Offensive Line

2019 Projection: Reserve on the Offensive Line

Roland is a walk-on from Roncalli High School, which is an in-state powerhouse with a rich football history within the state of Indiana. During his time at Roncalli, Roland was a three-year letter winner and part of Roncalli’s 4A undefeated 2016 championship season. Given that Roland is listed as an offensive lineman, he isn’t specialized in a specific position and could be utilized in almost any position.

While Roland hasn’t racked up much playing time during his first two seasons, he could see some playing time this year. Granted, that may come during the fourth quarter during a blowout, but given that the line could be a bit thin (according to some on our staff), it could give Roland the chance to prove himself to the coaches.

Since we don’t have access to practice/scrimmage tapes that may feature Roland’s time at Purdue, we will share a video of his senior year highlights at Roncalli. Kyle, one of our writers, described his play as: “blocks more like a guard than a tackle in my opinion as he is a great run blocking offensive lineman.”
