2020 Purdue Football Recruiting: Jared Bycznski Commits

This weekend is Purdue’s spring football game and the 2020 recruiting cycle is starting to ramp up. It will be an interesting cycle, too. The Boilers have only 11 scholarship seniors and 10 scholarship juniors in terms of eligibility. Even the next class, guys with 3 years of eligibility left entering the 2019 season, has just 13 members. That means only 34 scholarship players on the roster have actual game experience.

Purdue will be extremely young in 2019, and somewhat shorthanded. Purdue took a max class of 25 freshmen for this fall and had to do some scholarship gymnastics to get two more, Chase Triplett and Jacob Wahlberg, on campus counting towards the 2020 limit of 25. With all that, Purdue has only 78 scholarship players available in the fall and 55 for this spring with early enrollees like George Karlaftis.

The small senior class means another larger freshman class is coming. By my count Purdue has 12 spots open after tonight’s newest commitment, offensive lineman Jared Bycznski.

Highlights

Bycznski projects mostly as an offensive tackle and has offers from Kentucky, Missouri, and Wake Forest among other smaller programs. He could also potentially play on the interior of the line too. That versatility can be big for him going forward.
